Snack: Blueberries, walnuts and cottage cheese

I know this may sound like an odd combination. Blueberries and walnuts - yes! Blueberries and cottage cheese - yes! But all 3 together? Am I crazy??


This combo is surprisingly tasty and filling. I came across several articles discussing a diet of walnut and blueberries could improve cognition and may help maintain brain function. So I decided to give them a try. However, being a WLS patient, we live by our #1 motto: PROTEIN FIRST. So I felt compelled to add protein in some way. I tried cottage cheese and much to my amazement, I love the crunch of the nuts with the cottage cheese. This has become my go-to snack after my Orangetheory workouts. 

1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese with 40g of blueberries and 15g of walnuts


So now the benefits of blueberries and walnuts: 
• Blueberries are a terrific fruit, filled with lots of antioxidants, and have been associated with anti-aging, improving memory, lowering blood pressure and decreasing belly fat. Hello, you’re my fruit!!! 
• Walnuts are healthy, plant based protein with fiber which gives a sensation of being full. Nuts have a cholesterol and blood pressure lowering effect and are helpful in decreasing inflammatory factors in the body and lower weight gain.
